ORGANISATIONAL PROFILE

The Kenya Union of Journalists (KUJ) is an organisation seeking to improve working of conditions of journalists. It also protects and promote media freedom, professionalism and ethical standards in the media industry. Members work across the industry – as freelances, writers and reporters, editors, sub-editors and photographers. Members are drawn from broadcast, print and online.
The KUJ is affiliated to the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ).

THE SECRETARIAT

KUJ  is managed under a Constitution by a Governing Council that is responsible for the directions of the Executive Committee and the National officers to whom the daily management of the union shall be committed.

It is composed of the National Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary-General, Deputy General Secretary, Labour Secretary, International relations Secretary, Gender Secretary, Training Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, POranissing Secretary and ten members of the council elected at the Quinquennial Conference.

The principal role of the Council is to provide a strategic framework within which the ICJ Kenya secretariat executes programmes/projects. The secretariat staff are professional people employed on an equal opportunity basis.
